Chandigarh 08th June:-It was a not less than a miracle of sort for Rajasthan couple,  whose baby after the 20-yr of marriage, survived and ready to discharg as healthy like other babies despite having born as premature and weighing only 600-gram at the time of birth.

Now 3-month & 5-day old and having weight of 2.3-kg, the baby boy is all set to be discharged from IVY Hospital, Mohali tomorrow with normal growth and neurological development as per his age.

Interestingly there have been very few such instances of such low birth weight babies having been saved in the country.

He was just equal to my palm size when he was born as caesarian on February 28 night, recalled Dr. Rashmi Pandove, chief pediatrician and new born care specialist at IVY Hospital while addressing a press conference at Chandigarh Press Club today.

Dr. Rashmi Pandove further informed that since the boy was born prematurely we have to create conditions similar to the mother's womb to help the infant develop naturally. In the initial one week the baby's weight was decreased to 450-gram. Due to prematurity the baby was immediately shifted to NICU and was given intratracheal surfactant for lung maturity and was put on ventilator.

Baby was initially given total parenteral nutrition due immaturity of intestines. He also had patent ductus arteriosus which is type of congenital heart disease and for this baby was medically managed. The eyes of these babies are also not fully formed and are prone to develop Retinopathy of prematurity which happened in this micro primie as well for which laser was done. The baby also had other temporary problems such as apnea of prematurity, neonatal insulin resistance, infection, jaundice and anemia.

Meticulous care was taken using all aseptic precautions. Every potential complication was pre-empted and corrected then and there. Each day was a fresh challenge. The child was in fact become the darling of the whole hospital with everyone enquiring about his well-being as if it were their own . The efforts borne fruits as baby started to gain daily weight increase of 20-30 grams, pointed out Dr. Kanwaldeep, Medical Director, Ivy Group of Hospitals
The mother Manjit Kaur ( 45) has given proper training to handle the baby as in the past few days we have tried to keep him with his mother, asserted Dr. Kanwaldeep.

Meanwhile Dr Rashmi has set up a level 3 Neonatology unit at IVY hospital where she uses her expertise to provide the highest quality of medical care to the new born babies.

Chandigarh 09th June:-Pained by the defamation of Punjab on drugs issue, Harp Farmer, the well-known artist of Punjab started a drive against this negative agenda. He posted his video encouraging Punjabis to come forward to support the mission. The video garnered more than 1.5 million organic views on Facebook within one week. Prominent celebrities Daler Mehendi and Ankur Singh Patar supported his mission on social media with their selfie videos. Ankur Patar is one of the three illustrators in the world, Adobe is making documentary on. Over 1000 videos have already been posted by youth of Punjab on various social media platforms with the hasthtag #StopDefamingPunjab.

Finding Harp's idea in sync with their campaign "From Shame to Pride", Lipi Foundation joined hands with Harp.

Dr. Mahek Singh, Prinicipal Consultant, Lipi Foundation said that while she was working with CAPART, MoRD and Centre of Excellence, Punjab University as a research associate, she found that most of the issues in the social sector come from stereotyping. In case of Punjab, the negative stereotyping is leading to unrest. As a result the region is defamed and looked down upon. Through our campaign "From Shame to Pride" we at Lipi foundation intend to bring the unbiased and positive side of the region to the forefront.

The startling news of drug abuse in Punjab have been making rounds in the country bringing a bad name to the state, which has prompted Harp Farmer to start an online campaign, which is gaining popularity. He launched this campaign through his page "Stop Defaming Punjab" (https://www.facebook.com/StopDefamingPunjab/).

Addressing media persons here, Harp stated that he feel the pain when he travel abroad and people paint all the Punjabis in negative colors of being drug addicts. But these are not the true colors of Punjab. My mission is aimed at presenting the true colours of Punjab and clear myths regarding the drug abuse. He further added that it's a shame that some people are presenting a gory picture of Punjab for their selfish gains. Unfortunately they fail to understand that they are hampering the progress of the youth of Punjab. Drugs is a national problem and being a border state Punjab has been used as the doorway for drug trafficking but that doesn't mean all Punjabis are the consumers of drugs.

Lipi Foundation and Harp Farmer plan to do awareness campaign in different colleges and villages across Punjab, to educate the youth against the social evil of drug abuse.
