Chandigarh 02nd June:-In an environment where interest rates are on downward trajectory, Kotak Mahindra Bank (KMB) today announced that its customers will continue to enjoy 6% interest rate p.a. on savings account for balance above Rs. 1 lakh, and 5% interest rate p.a. on savings account for balance up to 1 lakh.

Taking a cue from the deregulation of savings bank interest rates by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in October 2011, KMB was amongst the first banks to revise its interest rates upwards to 6% p.a. for balance above Rs. 1 lakh. Most banks still continue to offer 4% p.a.

Ambuj Chandna, Sr. Executive Vice President, Kotak Mahindra Bank, said that we are in an environment where interest rates are headed downwards. While the focus is always on the borrower, very little or no thought is being spared for depositor. In this scenario, we have taken a strong decision to continue with our 6% proposition. The savings account can be a powerful tool for financial planning. We have a unique product suite, with customized offerings for each target segment that are bundled with the benefits of 6% interest rate. Ambuj added that we want everyone to earn more with 6%, and not be content with 4% interest. Savers often fail to realise how much more they could earn on their savings with a higher interest rate.

KMB offers a range of customised products for different customer segments, including children, women, families, citizens above 55 years of age, etc. Each of these segments has unique financial, lifestage and lifestyle needs, and these products are designed to fulfill their goals. Further, they come bundled with 6% interest rates p.a. for balance above Rs. 1 lakh.

KMB's Silk savings programme meets evolving needs of financially independent women, whereas Kotak Junior provides a long term savings programme for children, while helping instill early savings habits in them. Similarly, Grand is a tailored for customers who are 55+. My Family combines all of the above and offers a comprehensive savings proposition for the entire family.

Chandigarh 02nd June:- Renowned interventional cardiologist Dr H K Bali (Director – Cardiology, Fortis Hospital Mohali) recently performed a very complex intervention in a post-bypass patient. Dr H K Bali was invited to present this complex case at a prestigious international conference - Transcatheter Therapeutics Asia – Pacific (TCTAP), held at South Korea, last month.

Sharing the case details, Dr H K Bali said that our 82-year-old patient underwent a bypass surgery for critical blocks in all three vessels of his heart in 2011. However, he started getting chest pain and breathlessness on mild exertion recently.

Dr H K Bali said that we did an urgent angiography, which revealed critical total occlusion of the bypass graft supplying the major territory of the heart. "Treating this critical block was extremely difficult. The only route to the block was through a difficult retrograde passage via the main heart vessel of the patient, which was extremely tortuous and extensively calcified or blocked. Dr Bali and his team of surgeons conducted angioplasty for this critical blockade and successfully relieved the obstruction making the procedure one of its own kind in the World to be treated using angioplasty and stenting.

Dr H K Bali said that we used two medicated stents to treat the complex block. Very innovative technique was used to treat this extremely complex disease. He added that the procedure was conducted in 30 minutes and done under local anesthesia. Patient Nand Lal (83 years old), a resident of Jalandhar, is absolutely fine and has resumed all his activities normally.

Dr H K Bali said that this new surgery procedure reiterates the need to have advanced surgical procedures to de-clog such congestions, especially in the elderly post-bypass patients. He said that patients post-bypass surgery have vein grafts, which tend to get blocked with higher frequency rates as the years go past. Managing such a sub-set of patients with maximum medical management often yields no results. Intervening in such complex lesions is an arduous task and requires expertise. Young interventional cardiologists must be trained to manage such complex lesions in these patients, as their quality of life and sometimes, life, may depend on these timely interventions.

Chandigarh 02nd June:- Jethalal is known to create hilarious situations with his innocent antics. This simpleton character of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has made the audience laugh again and again with his clean humor and naivety. When he had taken on the role of a worker in his own shop to help Bagha win his lady love Bawri's parents, then their distinctive behavior had generated guffaws. But then Jethalal is known to have been caught in the web of his own making.

Now his impersonation of the servant has come back to haunt him once again. Asit Kumarr Modi said that Bawri's parents want to solemnize her relation with Bagha and call Gada home to express their desire to get their daughter engaged to Bagha. As usual Jethalal's imagination runs wild and he imagines himself playing the servant to Bagha and plans an escape route. But his entire plan backfires, making this track extremely funny. Once again, the audience will be treated to undiluted clean entertainment.

This upcoming track of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is going to be a rollercoaster ride for the audiences of SAB TV's leading sitcom. After the successfully run of their recent track on Iyer and Babita's divorce, it's time to revel in hilarity created by Jethalal and his role reversal activity.  Dilip Joshi said that it is an extremely funny track. We all are so used to playing the boss all the time that becoming a servant creates huge discomfort and from this dilemma, generates laughter. Whether he will play-act the servant or not, he is sure that audience will love the track.

Now Jethalal is in a fix as Bagha and Bawri's engagement depends on his decision to play Bagha's servant! Will Bagha's beloved Sethji sacrifice his reputation for him?  What will happen when Gokuldham's other residents find out about Jethalal playing his employee Bagha's servant.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is close to completing 2000 episodes and is still going as strongly as it did when it started. And that is why, the recent track between Iyer and Babita was received wonderfully by the audience even during the Indian Premier League.

Chandigarh 05th June:-A book 'Bhagat Singh's Jail Note Book: Its Context and Relevance' which contains Bhagat Singh's jail notes has released by Mr. Justice Ajay Tewari,  Mr. Justice Deepak Sibal, Baldev Mahajan, Advocate General Haryana, Prof. Harish puri, Prof. Ronki Ram and Prof. Jasbir Singh at Chandigarh Press Club today. The book has been edited by Malwinder Jit Singh Waraich and Harish Jain and published by Unistar Books, Chandigarh.

Interestingly, even more than eight decades after Bhagat Singh's martyrdom, one question that has remained central is how a 23-year-old young man was able to deal with such complex ideas? How he was trying to understand the contemporary society. How he was able to answer many questions.

Answers to the many of above questions can be found in the Notebook, in which Bhagat Singh jotted down the notes during last days in Lahore Jail. Thus the book opens a window into his exploration of ideas of distinguished thinkers and philosophers.

Prof Harish Puri, the former head of Department of Political Science at GNDU, Amritsar who has extensively worked on Punjab's freedom movement said that that well-known among his comrades as an avid and voracious reader, Bhagat Singh managed to procure during his imprisonment in jail a large number of selected books by prominent authors of his choice. The excerpts, notes and quotes from those books which he wrote down in his jail notebook reflected not only the seriousness with which he studied the books but also his intellectual sophistication and social and political concerns.

Harish Jain further maintained that this work helps one understand why the authors Bhagat Singh was quoting in his Notebook mattered to the martyr. Besides discussing the ideas central to the books, an attempt has been made here to explain the import of the quotes he chose to copy. Another debate that this book almost settles is that Bhagat Singh's Jail Notebook comprises notes from 46 books not 400 books as so far has been known. The book also carries a list of the books he consulted in jail.

Bhagat Singh was citing original author in his quote, even while he picked the same from secondary source," said Jain. He says that main intention behind this work was to make Bhagat Singh's world of books spirited and vibrant for the reader so that they may also be his fellow travelers and also get a chance to open a window into his times.

This book notes that Bernard Shaw was most profusely quoted, followed by Jack London and Oliver Goldsmith; all others generally did not have more than one quote.

One more important fact to be noted was that most of the quotes from creative works appeared in miscellaneous pages. These were the pages which are believed to have been written before he received the Notebook. Quotes on liberty, justice, crime and punishment are many, in fact, are spread over a good part of the Notebook. The book notes that Bhagat Singh's interest in poverty, crime, justice, punishment, imprisonment, prison and criminology was natural.

In majority of the quotes from Bernard Shaw's plays, and his preface to English Prison, and Eveyln Ruggles-Brise's seminal work on 'English Prison System', all had, the same implication for him, these made more sense of what was happening around, remarked Jain.

Several editions of Bhagat Singh's Jail Notebook have been published in different Indian languages in the last two decades. But the current edition with a detailed introduction also traces the entire history of the Notebook from September 12, 1929, asserted Jain.
