Chandigarh 12th September:-EcoSikh , an NGO committed to environment protection, launched a world-wide campaign '550 Rukh Guru de Naam'. Under this initiative people will be invited to celebrate Guru Nanak's 550th birth anniversary in 2019 by planting 550 trees each at their respective locations in every country of the world and especially in Punjab. The organization is targeting to reach 1 million trees by the end of next year.

Addressing the press at Chandigarh Press Club, EcoSikh Global President, Dr. Rajwant Singh stated that we want to highlight teachings of Guru Nanak on nature and this is the best way to exhibit the close connection of Sikh spirituality with God's creation, the beautiful flora & fauna. He added that we are confident that this will inspire not only people of Punjab and India but those across the world. As per World Health Organization, 7 million people die every year due to air pollution.  It's high time that we come together to safeguard the air by making a gift of 1 million trees for our Guru Nanak on His 550th Gurpurab. It is the best way to celebrate His love for nature and protect our Mother Earth. EcoSikh is also creating a mobile app platform to consolidate this report and it will be presented at United Nations as a unified Sikh effort for the mother earth.

He shared further that we appeal to Chief Minister of Punjab Amrinder Singh to focus on the environmental message of Guru Nanak while planning the celebrations next year and create a sacred forest of 50-100 acres in the name of the Guru in Punjab. This will be the long lasting impact of this historical celebration. This sacred forest could be at Sultanpur or any other location which has been visited by Guru Nanak. We are ready to cooperate in the execution of this plan. This could also generate eco-tourism in the region and bring employment to many.

EcoSikh has also created a Gurbani based Guru Nanak Bagh(garden), a first of its own kind nature oasis in Punjab. Various species of trees mentioned in the Sikh scriptures, Guru Granth Sahib, has been planted at this five-acre site and it was inaugurated on August 20, 2018. EcoSikh collaborated with the citizens of Patto Hira Singh village and the Patto Eco Tree and Landscape Society (PETALS) for this project. This historical sacred spot in Moga has been visited by Guru Nanak Dev ji and by the Sixth, Seventh and the tenth Sikh Gurus as mentioned in history.

Supreet Kaur, EcoSikh India President, said that over 30 teams of 500 youngsters from Punjab, Haryana, Chhatisgarh, Jammu, Karnal, Assam and foreign cities of Derby (UK), Hong Kong, Washington DC have already started plantations under the Guru Nanak 550 campaign.

EcoSikh also released a handbook Shreni Anusar Rukhaan Di Vyontbandi, written by the renowned environmentalist, Dr. Balwinder Singh Lakhewali to empower and educate common people to engage in plantation drives.

EcoSikh also introduced Puneet Singh Thind, Director Farm Grocers, a farmer owned business group which is focused on creating a bridge between farmers and consumers and making healthy food available for mass consumption.

Expressing his feelings, the PETALS President and native of Patto Hira Singh, Sukhchain Singh said that we are thankful to EcoSikh for envisioning that Guru Nanak's 550th birth-anniversary should be celebrated with having a long lasting positive impact. Planting trees from Gurbani in the name of Guru is a win-win situation for people, earth, animals and nature. It is history being created.

#BerokZindagi Launched to Urge Effective Management of Asthma

Chandigarh 12th September:-#BerokZindagi– a multi-media awareness campaign with the aim to dispel myths and fears regarding asthma and encourage those affected by this condition to live a life without limits was launched in Chandigarh today. While striving to establish inhalation therapy as the smartest choice to combat the illness, this multi-channel initiative will also provide information & resources for both - people affected by asthma and healthcare professionals. This campaign that also aims to eliminate stigma around inhalation therapy and make it more socially acceptable will help foster further dialogue between patients and their physicians.

Asthma is a chronic (long term) disease usually characterized by airway inflammation and narrowing of the airways, which can vary over time.Asthma population- prevalence in Chandigarh is around 4-5% which will amount to about 100000 in the tri-city in the region. The pediatric asthma segment has also seen a significant increase on a year on year basis (doctors reckon they see an estimated 5 new cases of children with sneezing & coughing problems every day) On an average until date in 2018, while Chandigarh has seen a 10% increase in the number of people suffering from asthma as compared to last year, approximately, one third of Chandigarhite will develop asthma at some time, mostly before the age of 20. Meanwhile while the number of patients using inhalation therapy has increased in the last few years, an estimated 50%of asthmatics discontinue inhaler use largely in female patients and children.

The reasons for the prevalence of asthma in Chandigarh include amongst others air pollution attributed to the uncontrolled increase in vehicles, allergies, increased consumption of tobacco, incorrect treatment in children, ignorance amongst parents, seasonal variations and weather fluctuations. The percentage and volume of lung diseases, especially asthma have gone up in Punjab especially in Chandigarh.

This campaign that kicks off on September 15 follows a synergistic partnership with Priyanka Chopra - Bollywood's global icon and an asthmatic herself to raise awareness about asthma along with helping address the stigma associated with this condition - one of the key factors responsible for patient anxiety & denial, delayed diagnosis, and avoidance of inhaler use in public.

Dr. S K Jindal, Director- Jindal Hospital, Former Professor and Head Pulmonary Department–PGI, Jindal Hospital, said that it is very significant to change the perception towards Asthma and Inhalation Therapy. While inhalation treatment can play a crucial role in reducing the impact of asthma on people's lives, compliance is crucial.Inhaled medicines helps to deliver the drugs directly to the lungs. But we need patients to adopt the treatment as they are prescribed in order to get the full benefit. He added that inhalation therapy works to control asthma by preventing & relieving symptoms and reducing flare ups, but they will work if patients work in partnership with their GP and take them in the way they are prescribed. Expanding one's knowledge on this conditions is vital as patients in Chandigarhstop using Inhalation therapy mid-way which makes it difficult to control the disease.

Dr. Meenu Singh, Professor in Paediatric Medicine (MD Paediatrics), Advance paediatric Centre, PGIMER, said that it remains a fact that the number of people affected by asthma in Chandigarh has gone up and we need to do a lot more work in terms of education, prevention, management and treatment of patients. It therefore becomes imperative to tackle the problem as early as possible and spread awareness on the correct and most effective way to handle it. It is broadly accepted that little or no adherence to the right treatment is a widespread issue amongst children in Chandigarh that is associated with poor health outcomes, resulting in unscheduled doctor visits and hospitalization. Inhalers are the best form of treatment as they deliver the medication directly to the lungs thereby requiring 20 times lesser dosage as compared to oral medication. They hence have the least amount of side effects.

Shourov Mukherjee, Senior Vice President, Cipla Respiratory that ongoing education is of paramount importance in chronic diseases like asthma. This is precisely where #BerokZindagi enables patients to participate and have a more effective role in their own treatment, working together with doctors to achieve optimal inhaler use and disease control, thereby living life to the fullest. While encouraging an increased dialogue on the management of asthma, this campaign also directly resonates with our endeavor of enabling people with the condition to achieve more in their daily lives.

According to WHO, between 15 and 20 million people have Asthma in India and the prevalence is high at 10% to 15% in 5–11-year-old children. #BerokZindagiaims to help millions breathe-free and is here to support asthmatics by encouraging them to opt for inhalation therapy. Shying away from the condition will not improve quality of life, accepting it will do. Asthma can be controlled with medicines, but without the appropriate treatment, it can lead to frequent attacks.

Chandigarh 12th September:-In a unique case, a pre-term baby was successfully treated at Fortis Hospital, Mohali despite several complications. The baby was born through C-section on 6th November 2017 at 23 weeks of gestation (at 5 and half months of pregnancy) and weighed only 560 grams at birth. This is the first 23-week baby to have been saved in the entire region including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir.

Dr Swapna Misra, Additional Director, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Fortis Hospital, Mohali, while interacting with media said that a 36 year old, 22 week pregnant woman came to the hospital in an emergency, with bleeding and leakage. She has no previous live issue. She had diabetes and hypothyroidism. This was a very early pregnancy, but parents were keen to continue despite there being a 70 percent chance of bad outcome. The parents agreed for conservative management. After 20 days, she delivered a baby. The Neonatal ICU team looked after the baby.

Giving the details, Dr. Sunil Kumar Agrawal, Consultant, Neonatology, Fortis Hospital, Mohaliexplained that baby of Shweta was born through C-section on 6th November 2017 at 23 weeks of gestation (at 5 and half months of pregnancy) and weighed only 560 grams at birth. At birth his lungs were very poorly developed for which he had to be put on ventilatory support right soon after delivery and was shifted to the Level 3 NICU.
Dr. Agrawal explained further that for the first 2 months of life everyday used to be a new challenge with its difficulty. At times his lung condition used to deteriorate, at times a duct in the heart (PDA) causing problems, at time difficulty in digesting feeds and at times infection is the troubling issue. But with advanced medical and nursing care, gradually he started improving and we could remove him from ventilator at 105 days of life. Even after that he used to require very small amount of oxygen and we could discharge the baby on 140 days of life. At discharge he weighed 2.9 kg and was receiving oxygen, which the parents continued at home for another one month.

Even after discharge the journey was not smooth. He has to be readmitted 6-7 times with feeding issues, respiratory illness. He said that but now he is fine weighing around 5 kg and as a fighter he conquered all the battels. That's why we say he is a true fighter and a miracle baby in true sense.

At 23 weeks of life, most of the organs of a fetus are not properly developed and as the chances of survival of such premature babies are very slim, many parents and even doctors believe that these babies cannot survive. Therefore, many a time these babies are not given aggressive intensive care. But with advancement of medical science, such micro preemies can be offered aggressive care if parents wish to do so. However, such babies need long-term follow up for their growth and neurodevelopmental assessment, as per the doctors.

Chandigarh 12th September:-An actor is always known by his acting and appearance and a fit body adds up to the performer's exquisiteness on screen. Gaurav Wadhwa from Sony SAB's show Super Sisters is one such artiste who gives his physique a lot of consideration in order to uphold a good screen presence.

Gaurav Wadhwa who plays the role of the handsome hunk Ashmit Oberoi on Sony SAB's Super Sisters doesn't believe in having a specific 'fitness mantra', but he surely does work out for at least an hour every day irrespective of his busy schedule.

Gaurav on the show as Ashmit Oberoi is falling in love with Shivani (Vaishali Takkar) who, due to various reasons doesn't want to involve herself with him. To keep herself away from Ashmit, Vaishali is trying to get her cousin Isha (Isha Anand) and Ashmit close.

Talking about his fitness routine, Gaurav Wadhwa said that there was a time when he used to weigh 74 kilos and now he is 57. This change was not only satisfying visibly, but also from within. Living a fit life makes one feel good. He strives to keep himself in good shape so that he looks presentable on screen. He maintains it by consuming protein bars and boiled veggies. He also make sure that he work out every day and eat healthy. However, honestly, Rasgulla is his weak spot.

The Summit, hosted by the Indian Federation of Culinary Associations (IFCA), will celebrate traditional cuisine with live demonstrations, food tastings, presentations, panel discussions, master classes and Q&A sessions by chefs from around the world in the holy city. It will focus on inculcating appreciation for food culture and traditions, as much as, good food habits and sustainable practices. The event will also witness the launch of the Chefs' Manifesto outlining hunger removal initiatives undertaken and sustainability development goals.

Chef Thomas Gugler, Chairman, World Association of Chefs Societies  (WorldChefs) will be the guest of honour. It was announced at a programme held at Chandigarh Press Club here today.

This is the first initiative of its kind in the world by WorldChefs and its objective is to promote cultural and culinary heritage of the nations of the world. The deep inroad that the food of Punjab has made on the international landscape makes it an inevitable stop for any food-lover's culinary journey. Amritsar, known as the culinary capital of this food loving state, lends itself naturally as a venue for the event. Against the backdrop of Harmandir Sahib, where the sacred 'Langar' is the largest example of slow food and community cooking, the World Heritage Cuisine Summit & Food Festival will bring together food lovers and professionals alike and provide the desired impetus to the culinary and heritage tourism of the state. This will bring pride to our national food culture.

Speaking about the event, Chef Manjit Gill, Chairman, World Cultural Culinary Heritage Committee, said that it is envisaged as an unprecedented opportunity for food enthusiasts to witness live demonstrations by renowned chefs from all over the world, and also to savour these delicacies through the many tasting counters. He said that in turn, these culinary ambassadors are expected to carry back indelible experiences and memories of the diversity of Indian cuisine and Punjabi hospitality to share and disseminate in their home countries. Adding further he said that to have Punjabi cuisine acknowledged as and listed under the Food Edition of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage remains my ongoing endeavour.

The aesthetics, layout and location of the historical venue partner Qila Gobindgarh – erstwhile home to Maharaja Ranjit Singh's prized diamond Koh-i-noor– expansive enough to accommodate the diverse guest list, make it the perfect setting for this culinary showcase.  The multiple venues at the premises will include a World Kitchen, where chefs from two countries will simultaneously showcase live cooking of traditional recipes every hour.
