Chandigarh 07th September:-A condolence meet to pay tribute to slain journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh was held today at Press Club, Sector 27 Chandigarh. The meeting was organized by National Media Confederation (NMC), Punjab & Chandigarh. It was supported by Chandigarh Press Club, Citizens Awareness Group and Women Welfare Trust.  Members from the media fraternity and supporters from various walks of life marked a presence at the meet.

At the meeting Deepak Kumar Dhingra, President of Chandigarh Management association (CMA) gave a brief history on the excellent work done by Gauri Lankesh with a special emphasis on her being the staunch critic of right wing Hindutava politics and her advocacy for the freedom of the press.

The President of the NMC, (Pb& Chd chapter), Surinder Verma said that the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh has raised alarms about the state of Freedom of Expression in the country. She had been dedicated to the cause of upholding the democratic values of the country. This murder is an assault on democracy. Ideological differences should lead to debate not physical violence. Ideas are bulletproof and thoughts cannot be suppressed through murders. The instance demands greater assertion of freedom of expression by everyone. The best way to react to this incident is by asserting our fundamental right to speech and liberty.

Adding to it, Jaswant Rana, President, Press Club, Chandigarh said that she had been exposing politicians and superstitions. Many more journalists should take up the cause Gauri Lankesh was fighting for and they would find ample support from us. Her assassination must be thoroughly investigated and the perpetrators brought to justice. Apart from this, request the concerned authorities to ensure security of journalists.

Gauri Lankesh, who was the editor of a weekly Kannada tabloid magazine Lankesh Patrike, was killed after being shot at least three times. She was shot by a helmet-wearing assailant while entering her home in Bengaluru.

At the end of the exam, the participants could instantly download their participation certificates.

Addressing the gathering during the Prize Distribution Ceremony, Sajjan, Margdarshak, Satyug Darshan Trust said that equality must be the basic human nature and attitude. And this is what equanimity and harmony are all about. Under this, emotions and thoughts unite to find solace since this is what energizes bonding and coordination. This forms the basis of behavioural gentleman-ship, facilitation, honesty, cordiality and explicitness. In short, the meaning is that in all states of control of the soul, body and mind the state of equanimity must be attained. It gives an amazing feeling through enlightenment of the soul by shunning the external differences.

Sajjan Ji requested all those present at the gathering to ensure steps towards equality and humanity so that the entire human race can benefit through it by leading a life of honesty and all-round development.  Sajjan Ji requested each one present at this unique mission to connect the next generation to moral values. He said that international Equanimity Olympiad conducted to uplift the moral value towards humanity should be taken up as a mission rather than just a yearly program. We took oath in 2013 to conduct such an Olympiad to celebrate World Equanimity Day and we fulfilled our promise over three years...and will continue to. He further added that Satyug Darshan Trust is ensuring through each exam that not only our young minds in schools but also those who drifted away from moral values and landed in jail can be brought back into the mainstream society through this mission. This year via this exam and through other mediums this message has reached more than 1.5 crore masses...this will rise in the years to come.

Satyug Darshan Trust thanks the education departments of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Assam who made this Olympiad not only reach this grand stage but also make it a great success.
