Chandigarh 20th November:-The First Interactive Session of the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Department ofPolitical Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh was held here today with S.D.M. (C)-cum-AERO-Virat, S.D.M. (S) Saurabh Mishra (Joint CEO) and otherOfficials from U.T. Chandigarh, and students and faculty members participated in thediscussion relating to Electoral Literacy Awareness.
Virat briefed the members of the Club regarding the various initiatives taken bythe Election Commission of India to mainstream the Electoral Literacy in India ingeneral and young voters in particular. He discussed at length the functions,objectives and nomenclature of the Electoral Literacy Clubs to be opened atdifferent levels in India. He also briefed the students about the special electoralrevision drive being carried out by the Election Commission of India from 15th-30th, November 2017 and persuaded the students to get themselves registered andalso motivate others to register through various means. He also made the studentsaware about the online procedure to register as voters. A detailed presentation wasgiven by the officials from the U.T. Chandigarh.
Dr. Navjot, Chairperson, Department of Political Science, informed that suchinteractions will increase awareness about electoral reforms and ELC will organizesuch programme on regular basis.
