Chandigarh 21st October:-On the occasion of Commemoration a Commemoration Parade was organized at the Ground of Police Station, Sector-17 Chandigarh inmemory ofthe martyredcompanions. Every year,21st October isthe day ofremembranceofthemartyredcompanionswholaid down their livesduring obligation of their duties. Onthis occasion, two-minute silence was held tosalute the memory of Comradeswho sacrificedtheir lives. CentralPoliceOrganizations andState Police celebratethis dayin the form of MartyrdomDay.
Tajender Singh Luthra, Director General of Police, UT, Chandigarh along with other police officers paid homageto their departedcomradesat the Martyrs Memorial Site. Last year from 1st September 2016toAugust 2017 total 383 Police Officers and Police Personnel from paramilitarypoliceforces andpoliceorganizationshave setexemplaryexample before their colleagues by sacrificing their lives duringduty. The history of commemoration day traces back to October 21, 1959, when a police party of theIndianpolice force was deployedtodefend national frontiers inthe Ladakh region. The samewasattacked by Chinese troops hidden by forming ambush in hills and10CRPFjawans were killed.Since then,thisdayis celebratedas MartyrdomDay at CentralPoliceOrganizations andPolice Forces in remembrance of countless sacrifice ofmartyrcompanions.
