Chandigarh 19th September:-The University Institute of Legal Studies(UILS), Panjab University (PU) is organizingthe Intra- Department Mediation & Negotiation Competition 2017 on 20th & 21st ofSeptember. The competition is the first of its kind and has received a tremendousresponse in its first endeavor. It will see the participation of 100 teams comprisingof 3 students each. The competition is unique in the fact that it will train thestudents of law to develop their social skills including the ability to communicateeffectively taking into account the human emotions involved in the process. Prof.Rattan Singh, Director, UILS has provided the platform for this event and provides hisunstinted support for these activities.
Dr. Shruti Bedi, the mentor of the UILS ADR &CCL Board says that this initiative is being undertaken to make the students aware ofthe consensual form of resolving disputes.
The event right from its inception has received an overwhelming response, so much sothat the registrations had to be closed in a couple of days. 137 teams had registeredin the first instance. However due to infrastructural constraints, it had to berestricted to a maximum of 100 teams. The propositions for the various rounds will bebased on different aspects of family and commercial law. The competition is spread over2 days, 20th and 21st Sept., 2017.
The preliminary rounds will begin on 20th morning at9.30 am which will carry on till 1:00 pm. Thereafter the quarter final rounds arescheduled to take place at 2: 30 pm. The semi final rounds are scheduled to take placeon 21st Sept., in the morning. Two teams will be shortlisted for the final rounds whichare scheduled to take place at 3:00 pm on 21st.
This will be followed by the prizedistribution ceremony for the winning teams and students.
The competition is being organized by the UILS ADR & CCL Board which has beenconstituted in July 2017 and this is its first initiative. The Board comprises 12members from the 3rd, 4th & 5th year students. The Board members have put in their besteffort in making this competition a success. The Mediation Center of the Punjab& Haryana High Court has played a very important role by providing trained mediatorsfrom the High Court for judging the competition.
